Scope

This standard specifies performance requirements and test methods for the classification of the bullet- resistance of glass (consisting of one or more layers of glass) and glass/plastic composites.  The term "bullet-resistant glazing" applies to products that have the obvious characteristics of glass, but it is understood to include also laminated products of glass and plastics

This standard applies to:-attack by handguns, rifles and shotguns. For glazing in buildings, for interior and exterior use;-the glazing product itself, assuming proper fixing. The protection provided by bullet-resistant glazing depends not only on the product itself, but also upon the design and fixing of the glass.

The classifications are  handgun classes are EN 1063 BR2, EN 1063 BR3 and EN 1063 BR4, Rifle specifications are EN 1063 BR1, EN 1063 BR5, EN 1063 BR6 and EN 1063 BR7.  Shotgun specs are EN 1063 SG1 and EN 1063 SG2. Unlike BS 5051 each has a further spall qualification of Spall Allowed or No Spall. When considering glazing, the constructions can either consist of all glass or glass/polycarbonate, dependent on the specification and application.  These constructions can also be sealed into double glazed units to obtain thermal properties and use in external scenarioBS EN 1063 Bullet Resistant Glass
